Fern is now into her 6^th working season and has done well so far. She was bought originally as a rough shooting dog for Gary but she has also been a peg dog, a beating dog and a key part of Gary's picking up squad. She has retrieved a variety of game including, duck, pheasant, pigeon, partridge, rabbit, hare, woodcock, snipe, grouse and has had no problems retrieving any of them.

She’s an excellent water dog and loves nights spent out duck flighting or completing water retrieves when out picking up.

Fern has developed a fused disc in her back, and although meant to keep active we have reduced her working days, and as a result is semi-retired from her duties as a working dog.  Instead she enjoys occasional drives to pick up on and life on the sofa in the evenings. Fern is also Gary's constant landrover companion when checking the pheasants or going out stalking deer.

In September 2007 I commissioned a picture of Fern to be drawn for Gary's Christmas, the results were too good for me to keep a secret and I have included a picture taken of the drawing below.
